Reconstruction of the face can require skills in managing deformities of the facial skeleton as well as the many soft tissue structures making up the anatomy of the face, such as the lips, eyelids, nerves and subcutaneous fat etc.
Causes of facial deformities are very diverse. They include:
Facial Injuries
Infection which causes loss of skin and bone.
Cancer and benign tumors which once removed by the surgeon need surgical reconstruction to re-establish function and appearance.
Birth defects such as cleft lip and palate
Developmental anomalies such as haemangiomas
Wasting diseases which can affect skin, fat and muscle.
